Nowadays there are
fortunately between 80 to 100 donkeys walking around free. They live in groups of 2 to 16
animals. Donkeys are the largest "wild animals" in Aruba, and are no problem at
all, as long as they do not endanger traffic. |

At this moment we know 2 large groups consisting of 9 and 11
animals. The one consisting of 11 can be found in the neighborhood of the Natural
Bridge/Alto Vista and the other group resides mainly in the neighborhood of the tunnel of
Love. |

There are, however,
some dangers for them: |
| |
| |
- Cars and trucks knock them down
|
| |
- Their natural habitats disappear, as many
houses are being built
|
| |
- Wells dry up or are poisoned

In the "Cunucu di
Burico", literally: donkey field, ill, maltreated and weak donkeys are daily taken
care of by volunteers. This is done thanks to
fundraising activities, donations and the adoption
program. |
