Once again the Sanctuary was very fortunate to have three interns/trainees working with us for about 10 weeks.  Two of the girls, Esmeralda and Ineke, were working on the inbreeding problem project and the other girl, Kelly, was studying the behavior of the donkeys in the wild and the donkeys in the Sanctuary to see if there was a difference in their behavior.
The girls also helped out twice a week at the Sanctuary helping the volunteers feed, take care of the donkeys and clean up after them.  They worked very hard and are now the proud parents of Watty, our oldest donkey.

Steve Trigilio and Frank Reynolds from New Jersey were in Aruba at the end of November.  They paid a visit to the Sanctuary and appreciate all we do for the Aruba donkeys.  They have a close friend, Suzanne Thompson, who loves animals and have decided to surprise her with a
Christmas gift by adopting a donkey for her.  They have chosen Rason who came to the Sanctuary in the middle of July.  He is a very sweet young donkey and had not been adopted yet.  Rason is happy to have such caring people adopt him.

December 25, 2005 - 2006. The adoption is to be continued till 2008. Thank you!

Baccha will undergo a name-change: his new name is Freezone. The donkey will be the mascot of the kids and will be dressed in green and grey from now on. A filly-sized halter will be custom- made anyway, so why not in the colors of the baseball team. Freezone’s new favorite sport is, of course, baseball. Freezone will be adopted by Free Zone Aruba from June 17, 2004-2005.

Another adoption year until 2007

The family Groot Antink-Oudesluijs have adopted our newest member Sunday
Dream
. In the picture are Jelle, Bo and Sunday! They love the donkeys so much they would like to foster two in the near future.  They have a beautiful place and as soon as they get fenced in they will be able to have some donkeys at home.

Adoption from April 14, 2008 - 2009

Mr. & Mrs. Luba and Frank Delaney are from Florida. They came to the Sanctuary and fell in love with our donkeys.  They decided to adopt three, Negrita, our baby, Bally and Pica, both are lame and share a corral.  The Delaneys also were extremely generous and
donated three huge bags of carrots and lots and lots of apples.

March 1, 2006 was a very difficult day for the volunteers of the Sanctuary.  Our beloved Bally had to go to donkey heaven as he was in a great deal of pain and could no longer stand up.  The pain medication was no longer working.  Although he had been with us less than a year he will be missed by all of us.

January 26, 2006 - 2007

Bally

Negrita

Pica

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Pica on Friday, October 26, 2007.  Pica was having his hooves trimmed and apparently he became scared and jumped up.  When he landed he broke his front right leg (the one that had been broken before).  The vet was called and came to the Sanctuary.  Unfortunately there was nothing he could do as the bone was through the skin and it was his bad leg so he was put down.

Our Canadian friends continue to support the Sanctuary.  Barbara Millichamp enjoys time sharing on Aruba and visited us.  She fell in love with Kromoor (Crooked Ear) and adopted him to make sure he would be
around next year when she returns.

February 1, 2006 - 2007
Recently Ria Hagen and her husband returned to the Sanctuary and decided to adopt Ginger.  In the past they have donated generously to the donkeys. Besides Ginger's adoption, they have once again donated lots of carrots and apples plus a very nice financial donation.  Ginger and all her friends at the Sanctuary will ejoy the very nice gifts from the Hagens. The adoption runs from August 1, 2004 - 2005.
The adoption is to be continued. Thank you!

Gina Kuiperi, Melvin Boekhoudt, Trevor Rosel and Edsel Pietersz are working on a documentary about the 10 years of Fundaction Salba Nos Burico which is celebrating their anniversary in April 2007.  They have come to the sanctuary several times and are very excited about what we do.  The four of them spontaneously decided to adopt Ban Ban because they have worked with him for commercials and with the Youth Club of the Sanctuary.  You can visit their website at www.youthfever.com

Chris and Deserie Trojan from Rochester, N.Y. visited the Sanctuary in January 2006.  It was their first visit to Aruba.  They were impressed with how clean and well run the sanctuary is.  They decided to adopted a donkey and picked Picasso because he has a really feisty (energetic) nature.

January 21, 2006 - 2007

Rachel Stern from New York fell in love with Negrita and adopted her.  While visiting the Sanctuary she said she learned a lot about donkeys and our rescue program.
