Heleen
Bongers and her husband
have been fans of the sanctuary for a long time. Since October
2003 they have adopted Sonic.
Before Sonic came to us he used to terrorize the horses at Desert Rose
riding school. At the Sanctuary Sonic knows his place and does
not fight anymore.

Charlene E.
Hopkins from Illinois comes to the sanctuary when she is on Aruba.
Charlene is planning to volunteer as soon as she retires and moves to
Aruba. Until that time she has decided to adopt
Negrita, our little baby.

Cowboy
is Linda Shapiro’s donkey-love. She adopted him for a period of two
years, starting on March 17, 2004. Cowboy was so
unfortunate to have stepped into an air filter with his
hind leg. It took three weeks before we were able to cut the burden
off of him, which took several hours. With assistance of people from
Texas (hence the name Cowboy), this wild donkey is now running around
the sanctuary free and very happy.
Mrs Shapiro renewed the adoption till march 2010. Thank you very
much!

Karen
Pietruszkiewicz from Connecticut was on a Caribben cruise and want
to go to the Sanctuary in Bonaire. For some reason this could
not be done and she got in touch with us to find out directions and
hours for our Sanctuary. She fell in love with Bambi who
is our donkey with a spinal birth defect. Karen loves the
underdog and adopted him. She also liked how Lucky takes care of
Bambi.

Claire Job
and her husband, from England, visited the Sanctuary twice while
on vacation. They think we do a fantastic job looking after
the donkeys and wanted to help. They chose Storm as she
is so friendly and really loved all the carrots they gave her.
adoption from September 24, 2007 - 2008

Karin
vd Noort has been a very enthusiastic volunteer at the sanctuary
on Fridays. Karin often attended the
Board meetings. Unfortunately she will be leaving the island to
go back to the Netherlands. In preparation for her return to
Holland she had a sale of all her
plants and raised 400 florins plus she also had some other funds from
a previous sale. Karin has very generously decided to adopt Sonic
with these funds. Sonic is a very quiet donkey who has a permanent
limp. Karin will be sorely missed when she leaves and everyone at the
sanctuary, donkeys and volunteers alike, will miss Karin. All
the best in Holland and please return soon.

In October Cindy and David Adams
from Schenectady, New York, came to the Sanctuary with their friend
Rick Berschwinger. Cindy fell in love with Bono, one of our
adorable babies who was born in July. Cindy adopted Bono and
would like him to have a middle name. He is now Bono Joe.
She plans to be back next October to see how big Bono has
gotten.

Frank Baks
made a fantastic New Year's Resolution to adopt one of our donkeys.
He chose Jolly Jumper who is 4 years old. Frank admires
the work we do not only with the donkeys but also preserving part of
Aruba's
heritage.

Friends of our
volunteers often show up at the Sanctuary and of course fall in love
with the animals. This happened when Chris and Eline Ouwinga,
friends of our Friday volunteer Marga Staal, showed up. They
live in the Nederlands. Eline had an instant connection with Storm
one of our young donkeys who is very friendly.
