Victoria
Olavarria and Jacob who come
from New York State, visited the Sanctuary and said what a good job
we do. They then decided to adopt Grandpa, one of
oldest and best loved donkeys. Grandpa knows how to make
friends with all the visitors.
July 17, 2006 - 2007
November
4th was a sad day for everyone who loved Grandpa (and who didn't?)
He was found dead in the bushes. We think he was about 40 years old
and died from old age.
|
| The
adoption of Tu Tu was a present for Eddy Tromp, given by his sister. Eddy is very happy with his
present and visits Tu Tu once in awhile accompanied by his mother and
sister.
adoption period : November 29,
2003 - 2004
The adoption is to be
continued! Thank you very much.

Grade 3 from the International
School of Aruba spent the morning at the Sanctuary learning about
the donkeys and helping to clean the area the donkeys live in.
They were a very curious group asking a lot of
very good questions. They raised money through bake sales to
adopt a donkey for a year. They checked out each donkey and
decided to adopt Blanca. Blanca is a
very ladylike and quiet donkey. She loved all the attention the
students gave her before they went back to class.

An
animal protection foundation, Dierenbescherming,
in the Netherlands has adopted Tio
Mexico. We had asked the foundation for a donation
and they decided to adopt one of our donkeys. Tio Mexico came to
the sanctuary in February 2004. He had a stroke and his fact is
partially paralized on one side. However he is a very active
donkey and does not allow the other donkeys to push him around.

On
Friday, March 4th, Jana and Alan Poulton from Michigan USA came
out to the Sanctuary. This was their first trip to Aruba. They
fell in love with our newest addition, Blackie. Blackie is
approximately seven months old and was rescued by the Kelly family in
Alto Vista. The Kelly's feed some of the wild donkeys and
Blackie came to them with a broken leg. Blackie had his leg operated
on again. We thought that it was going to be amputated.
However, when we came to pick him up, the Vet had been able to save
his leg and put it into external traction. He is still at the clinic
recovering and seems to be doing very well. He is trying to put some
weight on the leg and is starting to be a frisky little boy by opening
the gates of the sick or blind dogs. Everyone at the clinic
loves him.
adoption
runs from march 4, 2005 - 2009

donkey: Patricia and David Kennedy from the US are long-standing
repeat-guests to the island. Sasha was their choice. Sasha is
Sashi’s daughter and mom of Andrew and Jolly Jumper.
This
adoption is a continuing story.... Sasha
is very happy with her adoption parents.

One of our
newest volunteers, Jean Patey, was at the sanctuary shortly
after a new very young donkey arrived. She fell in love with Storm
who loves to nuzzle you and follow you around. She has decided
to
adopt her. This is one of the advantages of being a volunteer.
You get to meet all the new donkeys, whether brought in or born at the
sanctuary, right away so you can bond with them.
