Victoria Olavarria and Jacob who come from New York State, visited the Sanctuary and said what a good job we do.  They then decided to adopt Grandpa, one of oldest and best loved donkeys. Grandpa knows how to make friends with all the visitors.

July 17, 2006 - 2007

November 4th was a sad day for everyone who loved Grandpa (and who didn't?) He was found dead in the bushes. We think he was about 40 years old and died from old age.

The adoption of Tu Tu was a present for  Eddy Tromp, given by his sister. Eddy is very happy with his present and visits Tu Tu once  in awhile accompanied by his mother and sister.

adoption period : November 29, 2003 - 2004

The adoption is to be continued! Thank you very much.

Hans Kirchhoff from Smile Residence in Sweden wanted to name a donkey and adopt him for the rest of his life.

Mikie 2 is his name! Mikie 2 is a very friendly donkey who resently joined the more than 60 donkeys we already take care of.

Adoption started February 10, 2008

Grandpa and One Eye have been adopted by a mother-daughter team.  Mom, Mindy Ulery-Schumann, and daughter, Lyndy, live at Tierra del Sol when they are on Aruba which is a lot.  Lyndy plans to volunteer as a summer camp project.  Mindy just fell in love with the donkeys. November 4th was a sad day for everyone who loved Grandpa (and who didn't?) He was found dead in the bushes. We think he was about 40 years old and died from old age. Instead of Grandpa Lyndy adopted Negrita
December 27, 2005 - 2008

On their first visit to Aruba Claudia  surprised her husband Nader  Bakhitiary with the adoption of a donkey for his birthday.  She chose Rason. Rason is a very shy donkey who showed up at the sanctuary one day.

adoption april 3th, 2006 - 2007

One Eye is the grey donkey with her ears in her neck.......

One Eye is being adopted by Bam de Jong and Desiree
Schouw
from the Netherlands.  They visited the Sanctuary and spent a long time enjoying all of our cute donkeys.  Ban works for the Animal Ambulance service in Gouda, Holland.  Obviously they love animals.

Adoption October 16, 2007 - 2008

Arlene and Rod Lema who adopted Pica, had to chose a new donkey. Pica died last October when he broke is bad leg again.

They choose the future leader of the group Bono! Even though he is only 7 months old. It looks like he is already in charge.

Adoption period: February 9, 2008 - 2009

Melissa and Nicole Katkin of Staten Island New York
adopted "Dushi".  They feels we are doing a very good
job of preserving the Aruban donkey.

They met Dushi when he was a week old!

Adoption August 24, 2007 - 2008

Grade 3 from the International School of Aruba spent the morning at the Sanctuary learning about the donkeys and helping to clean the area the donkeys live in.  They were a very curious group asking a lot of very good questions.  They raised money through bake sales to adopt a donkey for a year.  They checked out each donkey and decided to adopt Blanca.  Blanca is a
very ladylike and quiet donkey.  She loved all the attention the students gave her before they went back to class.

June 2007 -2008

Stacy, who is our intern working on our 10th anniversary projects, has been writing home about the Sancturary.  Her mom, Soekira Mentowidjojo, and her co-workers at Rijnland Hospital, dept. KVA/6A, decided to adopt one of our donkeys after hearing all the stories.  Her mom came to Aruba and picked Sassy to be their donkey.

May 9, 2006 - 2007

Naomi Muller is back on the island after living for several years in the Netherlands. Until she starts her new job here, she is coming to learn about our volunteer work and plans to volunteer once a month on weekends.  She decided to adopt Jolly Jumper starting February 6th, 2005.

Another adoption for the new baby.  Bob, Stien, Angela and Sasja, who are co-workers at Hans Weeren Schoonmaakspecialisten in the Netherlands will pick a first name for the baby.  Bob visited Aruba last summer and said he wanted to get his co-worked enthusiastic about adopting one of our donkeys.  They have talked about it for quite awhile and finally a decision was made. The baby will be named Bono

July 17, 2007 - July 17, 2008

An animal protection foundation, Dierenbescherming, in the Netherlands has adopted Tio Mexico.  We had asked the foundation for a donation and they decided to adopt one of our donkeys.  Tio Mexico came to the sanctuary in February 2004.  He had a stroke and his fact is partially paralized on one side.  However he is a very active donkey and does not allow the other donkeys to push him around.

adoption March 22, 2006 - 2007 The adoption is to be continued.

On Friday, March 4th, Jana and Alan Poulton from Michigan USA came out to the Sanctuary. This was their first trip to Aruba.  They fell in love with our newest addition, Blackie. Blackie is approximately seven months old and was rescued by the Kelly family in Alto Vista.  The Kelly's feed some of the wild donkeys and Blackie came to them with a broken leg. Blackie had his leg operated on again.  We thought that it was going to be amputated.  However, when we came to pick him up, the Vet had been able to save his leg and put it into external traction. He is still at the clinic recovering and seems to be doing very well. He is trying to put some weight on the leg and is starting to be a frisky little boy by opening the gates of the sick or blind dogs.  Everyone at the clinic
loves him.
adoption runs from march 4, 2005 - 200

Pat & Art Weiss, long time visitors to Aruba, renewed their adoption of Kromoor (Crooked Ear) for the 3rd year.  While here they made several visits to the Sanctuary, bringing their son and daughter so they could meet their adopted brother.  Pat enjoys wearing the blue Sanctuary T-shirt.

adoption began in February 2004

Once bitten by the bug of owing donkeys, they could not resist an Aruban donkey: Patricia and David Kennedy from the US are long-standing repeat-guests to the island. Sasha was their choice. Sasha is Sashi’s daughter and mom of Andrew and Jolly Jumper.

This adoption is a continuing story.... Sasha is very happy with her adoption parents.

One of our newest volunteers, Jean Patey, was at the sanctuary shortly after a new very young donkey arrived.  She fell in love with Storm who loves to nuzzle you and follow you around.  She has decided to
adopt her.  This is one of the advantages of being a volunteer.  You get to meet all the new donkeys, whether brought in or born at the sanctuary, right away so you can bond with them.
